Long dress made from stretchy t-shirt material in a bright pink floral pattern. I made the pattern for this myself after several attempts at getting it perfected.
I am happy with the design and plan to make more of these sweet little dresses.
The goal was to make the main body of the dress all in one piece, eliminating side seams. The bodice is self-lined to the waist, and a ruffle is attached at the bottom. There are no back closures, so the dress just slides up the doll and fastens at the neck with a snap closure.
I made a fun little belt out of a piece of decorative trim with snaps at the back to close.
I liked this dress so much, I made another. This time instead of self-lining it (which made the back neck closure look a bit bulky in the pink version), I lined it with sheer nude polyester. This can be a bit tricky because the fabric is very 'slidy'. I have discovered this from sewing other garments with this lining, so this time I tried cutting the lining as shown in the image below. It worked out much better and my material didn't slide at all. Then I trimmed the entire faced area. The trick to turning this neckline is to take a pair of tweezers. Insert the tweezers into the tube and firmly grasp the seam at the end. Then pull it through. You can turn it in seconds that way. All you have left is the back seam and the ruffle - sew on the snaps at the back neck - and the dress is finished!
