Sometimes I buy and cut up clothes I find at charity shops because I like the fabric, and think the print or texture  is in good scale for my dolls.  The cost of fabric (even a remnant or a fat quarter) can be expensive, so consider used clothing to stretch your fabric options.

This fabric reminded me of some of the 'mod' prints from the 1960's.  The grey trim and the leggings came from a T-shirt sleeve and the band from the neck.  My husband asks me to cut the sleeves and neck ribbing off of some of his T-shirts.  What's left is perfect scale for Barbie or other similar fashion dolls.

The top is cut as all one piece (my own design).  It has an elastic casing at the back waist.  It is not lined, but it's edged with the trimmed-down neck ribbing from the T-shirt.  I didn't have enough ribbing to go all the way around the garment, so I stopped at the side-seams and tried to make it look like a feature.  Statement buttons finish the look.
