Every little girl wants to dress her Barbie like a princess, so I made my granddaughter these two dresses from the patterns shown. I think that pattern companies intentionally make Barbie clothes too big so children can dress their dolls easier, but found that I had to adjust both dresses, especially the pink one. I love lace-overlay effect. If you cut the lace and satin at the same time, your pieces are exact matches, and it's just easier to cut it that way. I find that most commercial Barbie patterns tend to be quite roomy, so if you are making these dresses for how they look on display, rather than ease of little fingers, you will need to make adustments to the pattern.

I cut the bottom of the lace with pinking shears.
The necklace is a toe ring.
The white dress on your left was made with a baby sock, just to prove you don't need fancy sewing skills to make a cute party dress for a doll. Cut the toe off the sock and turn down the edge to make a casing - then insert elastic so it won't fall down. Make sure it isn't so tight that it won't slide over the doll's hips. The shrug is a hair scrunchy. Put the doll's arms straight back and pull the scrunchie up the arms and over the shoulders. When you put the arms down, it's instant glamour!
