I really enjoyed making this entire group of outfits from Simplicity 1955 - that is after I wasted some time and fabric figuring out that I couldn't go by the sizes the pattern recommends. I had to move up the the larger Moxie doll size to fit the Fashionistas, and there still was barely enough material to fit around the doll at the bodice. The bolero jackets are all made from the Moxie doll size as well. As for the skirt piece, I had to take a pie-shaped wedge off the back to keep it from billowing out too far.
I have read other reviews of this pattern on the Internet and found that I am not alone in discovering these patterns are cute, but the quality control on the sizing of this pattern was less than ideal, to say the least!
Doll clothes in three pattern sizes:
S - 10-1/2" (26.5cm) Bratz Dolls
M - 11-1/2" (29cm) Barbie and Liv Dolls
L - 12-1/2" (32cm) Moxie Fashion Dolls
Once I figured out the correct size patterns to use and made a few adjustments, the pieces turned out really cute. I made some simple little tops out of socks. You just use the decorative top of the sock for the bottom, and make a casing at the top and run some elastic through that. Then stitch up the center back seam. Easy, peasy!
Here is a back view of the bolero. It is meant to ride high on the back. I do wish I had made the arm holes a bit bigger because my granddaughter had trouble getting Barbie's hands through the sleeves. You can see it is a bit too full for cotton fabric, so I'd recommend taking about an inch or two off the pattern for a more realistic fit.
I used the dress pattern shown at the top of this page to make this skirt. I had cut the dress according to the pattern in Barbie size and it wouldn't go around the doll, so rather than to toss the fabric, I modified it into a skirt since it fit around the doll's waist just fine.
I made a little handbag and hat out of wool felt to complete the outfit and Barbie is ready to step out!
To the left is another variation of the 'sock shirt'. I cut the sock longer, then sewed the back seam. I then sewed a small seam at the bottom middle to form the crotch area. I then hand-stitched a little hem at the bottom of each leg. This makes a darling little one-piece that looks like a pair of shorts under the skirt.
The purple outfit is another simple circle skirt and a sock top made just like the ones to the left, only cropped short. The wool felt jacket is my one-piece pattern.
